Corgis hate to slow down for anything, but sometimes age-related physical changes, such as arthritis, make it tough to keep going at full intensity. Besides any intervention recommended by your veterinarian, a soft cushion to lie on and glucosamine chondroitin supplements added to the diet can help soothe aching joints, and keep him as young in body as he is in spirit. We recommend Healthy breeds PW Corgi Advanced Hip & Joint Support.
With Corgi's, nail maintenance is one of the most important aspects of your dogs overall upkeep. Clipping your pups nails every two weeks or so using a medium-duty dog nail clipper will prevent their nails from breaking and also stop the nails from potentially affecting posture health.
Brushing your Corgi's teeth is crucial in preventing infection as well as keeping your pup fresh and clean.
PW Corgi coat care is pretty straight forward. Using a pin brush to remove dead hair once or twice a week, will prevent a lot of it from ending up around your house. During shedding season, bathing your pup will loosen a lot of the dead hairs. Brushing after your pup is clean and dry will be the most effective time. We recommend Healthy Breeds PW Corgi Chamomile Soothing Dog Shampoo to nourish skin without stripping natural oils. Also, if your pup suffers from itchy skin, we recommend Healthy Breeds PW Corgi Oatmeal Shampoo with Aloe.
The Corgi's top health concern is intervertebral disk disease, a type of back problem that can lead to pain and even paralysis. One important step you can take to lessen the chance is to keep your Corgi svelte. Most Corgis like to eat more than they should, so you may need to ration their food, and very likely, feed a low calorie diet. When dieting a dog, you must make sure he gets enough vitamins. We suggest supplementing with a good multi-vitamin, probiotics and, if the coat is dry, a fatty-acid supplement. We recommend Healthy Breeds PW Corgi Z Flex Mini Soft Chews.
Most Corgis have healthy ears, but you should still check them for signs of redness, itching or debris weekly. Any time they get goopy, clean with an ear-cleanser. If the goop comes back, see your veterinarian. We recommend Healthy Breeds PW Corgi Ear Cleanse with Aloe Vera to keep your pups ears clean and free of infection.

The Corgi is actually a dwarf member of the spitz family. Some spitz breeds are excellent herders, and the Corgi's short stature allowed them to duck beneath kicking hooves. By the 1800s, they were used to drive cattle, gather flocks of geese and chickens, and even herd sheep and ponies. Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh Corgis come from different origins. The Pembrokes are smaller, finer boned, have smaller ears and a foxier expression compared to the Cardigans. They also usually have a bobtail, which can be either natural or docked.
Queen Elizabeth welcomed her first Pembroke to her home in 1933, and her influence has helped make them one of the most popular dogs in Britain. But their most influential PR agents are themselves: to know a Corgi is to want one.
They're smart, devoted and willing to please–a short-legged dog that's high on life. And on toys–lots of toys.
