TYE DYE INSTRUCTIONS Let’s Get Started! FABRIC PREPARATION: Pre-wash or rinse fabric items (without fabric softener) before dyeing. Wring out fabric prior to dyeing.
SODA ASH IS THE KEY TO COLOR!
MIXING: Dye/Soda Ash Mixed Method: Make your dye solution by mixing dye powder with soda ash using a 1:1 ratio.
If using the scoop provided, start with 2 scoops of dye powder and 2 scoops of soda ash, add to 4 oz. of tap water and shake to mix well. (two scoops equals approximately 1 teaspoon).
TIP: Increasing the amount of dye will yield more intense color, less dye will be more pastel. Adjust as desired. Dye powders may be mixed to create different colors. Squeeze bottle applicators make applying the dye easy!
NOW TIME TO TIE & DYE! 1. Protect work surfaces and clothing. Wear gloves as dye stains! While fabric is damp, fold/tie as desired and secure with elastic bands.
2. Place your tied garment on a flat surface protected by plastic. Hold the bottle and squeeze the dye directly onto the fabric. Flip the garment over making sure the opposite side is dyed as well.
3. Place into plastic bag and tie tightly. Set for 12-24 hrs
IT’S WOW TIME! 1. With gloves on, remove your garment from the plastic bag, remove rubber bands, and place under cold running water. Continue to rinse until the water runs clear.
2. Lastly, wash the rinsed garments with like colors in the washing machine on the warm/hot cycle. Hang or machine dry. You may also choose to hand wash your item.
